Letter from the CEO: 2024 Year in Review
Dear Member,
As this year draws to a close and the exciting possibilities of the new year approaches, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the achievements of our organization, members, partners, and the greater HR community.
Membership & Member Benefits:
- As of November, we have 8,863 members of CPHR BC & Yukon.
- Of this, 4,513 currently have their CPHR designation.
- We had 485 mentors and protégés participate in the Professional Mentorship Program. Join the next cohort.
- We produced “AI for HR: A Guide to Effective Prompts” to help transition members towards a future workplace powered by Generative AI. Explore your benefits.
Community:
- We hosted 94 connection events, including 36 in-person (socials, breakfasts, forums) and 58 virtual (such as Wake Up/Wind Down HR).
- We held 66 Roundtables across 7 areas of HR.
- We organized 22 Communities of Practice across 5 industries.
- We hosted 19 Strategic HR Forums, including 16 in-person and 4 virtual events.
- We held 6 HR Industry Nights and 1 Student Summit to support students and new graduates.
- We hosted 8 HR Meet Ups, a new series of events to connect members and non-members within smaller geographical centres.
- We welcomed 10,104 participants and granted 9,369.5 CPD hours through these community-centric events.
- For 2025, we already have lots planned, including additional Strategic HR Forums, more Communities of Practice industries, and expanded regions for HR Meet Ups. See the calendar.
Professional Development:
- We held 6 in-person symposiums across Vancouver, Richmond, Prince George, Nanaimo, Whitehorse, and Kelowna.
- We held 3 virtual symposiums on the topics of inclusion, the future of work, and year-end legal updates.
- We had 7,543 attendees participate in our symposiums and webinars.
- We granted 3,741.17 CPD hours through events hosted by CPHR BC & Yukon and our partners.
- For 2025, we have 6 in-person symposiums and 1 virtual symposium planned. Take a look.

Recognition:
- We recognized 6 recipients of the 2023 HR Spotlight at the Member Recognition Gala 2024.
- We celebrated 450+ members who earned their CPHR designation.
- We recently announced the 5 recipients of the 2024 HR Spotlight, sponsored by Humi. Meet them here.
- On Feb. 3, 2025 we will recognize Kevin Howlett, our newest FCPHR; our 2024 HR Spotlight recipients; and our 2024 CPHR designates at the Member Recognition Gala. Secure your spot.
Conference:
- We welcomed more than 1,400 in-person attendees at the HR Conference & Expo 2024.
- We had 80+ exhibitors and sponsors participate in the event.
- We just opened registration for the HR Conference & Expo 2025, which will take place April 29-30. Save your seat.
As we wrap up this message, I want to thank our team, as well as the hundreds of member volunteers and our loyal partners and sponsors who supported CPHR BC & Yukon in 2024.
From our Board of Directors, to event volunteers, to the Public Policy Committee, to the HR Spotlight Committee, to the Conference Advisory Committee, to the Validation of Experience Committee, to the CPD Audit Committee, to the Professional Mentorship Program, to the Advisory Councils, to the Membership Committee, to the Online Community Hosts and Facilitators, to the Student Ambassadors — we couldn’t have achieved what we did this past year without you!
