#HRMA2012 – Reflections of an #HRfanboy
By Leo Ng
Editor’s Note: Leo NG, a SFU student, was the recipient of a conference scholarship in the Greater Vancouver region.
The experience and learning from the BC HRMA Conference and Tradeshow (#HRMA2012) in April was phenomenal. Wow.
Why was #HRMA2012 such a great event? For a third year #HRfanboy from SFU Beedie, this was BC’s HR field at its finest. Nearly 1,000 HR professionals were under one roof to celebrate 50 years of HR excellence promoted by BC HRMA. Because of these three days, #HRMA2012 has confirmed for me that HR is truly the career field that I would find happiness in. (Remember Tony Hsieh?)
Unlike most networking functions, Conference 2012 truly reflected the best of the HR field today. Meeting a number of professionals working in and with the HR field, it was great to witness the passion and pride these individuals have as they introduced themselves and expanded on the day-to-day duties of their respective roles. For those developing as future HR professionals, #HRMA2012 was truly an event that all HR students should attend to meaningfully learn beyond the academic setting.
I want to thank the organizing committee of #HRMA2012 for the all the hard work put into the details and logistics to make this conference such a great success. As well, I want to say a huge thank you to Lindsay Thorpe and Shandele Yuen from BC HRMA’s regional scholarship committee for choosing me as this year’s scholarship recipient.
Back at SFU Beedie, I look forward to sharing the learning and experiences from the conference with this year’s new executive team at SFU Human Resources Students’ Association.
Looking forward to #HRMA2013.
