Safety First: BC HRMA Member Recognized with Award
Doreen Maruska, CHRP, was recently presented with a prestigious Achievement Recognition Award by the BC/Yukon chapter of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering. As health and safety officer with the Squamish Nation, Maruska’s efforts received recognition in the category for organizations with 51-500 employees.
The award recognizes the Squamish Nation’s exceptional efforts in the area of occupational health and safety. Holding both the CHRP and the Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designations, Maruska developed and implemented a comprehensive occupational health and safety management program. Among the many initiatives this spawned, Maruska provided safety training to more than 100 Squamish Nation employees, close to one quarter of the workforce.
The Canadian Society of Safety Engineering was founded in 1949 and is the leading health, safety and environmental organization in Canada. For more information on the Society or the awards, visit www.csse.org.
